 Sandlapper's Vision

Sandlapper will prepare every student academically, socially, and emotionally to be creative leaders in a global society.

Good Afternoon Sandlapper Families,

I hope you and your family are doing well.  It has been a pleasure welcoming students back into the building after Winter Break.  As you know, safety is always the top priority.  As we begin the 3rd nine weeks, I would like to remind parents about our A.M. & P.M. drop off procedures. Please note, due to the distance from our school campus, we no longer have a crossing guard at the entrance of Vineyards Crossing.  Please make sure to consider this as you make plans for your students who cross the street near the entrance of Vineyards Crossing to walk to and from school.

Please review the following procedures and adhere to them for the safety of your children and all of the children who attend Sandlapper Elementary.

Morning Arrival:

*Arrival/ car rider unloading begins at 7:10 AM.

*Students must wait for SES staff supervision before exiting vehicles. SES staff are outside from 7:10 AM to 7:40 AM.

*Please observe the 10 mph speed limit.

*Follow the blue line, closest to the curb.

*Pull up as far as possible before stopping to unload so that other parents can do the same. This helps us to unload more cars, moving the car rider line more quickly.

*Students may only exit from the passenger side of the vehicle.

*Please remember students must not be dropped off on the side of the road at the entrance of the school as it is not safe. Cars driving on the grass or on the sidewalk where students are walking is not safe.  For the safety of all, please remember there is no parking alongside the road outside of the gate.

*No parking is permitted along the curb and or in the parking lot unless you are coming into the building. If stopping/parking is needed, please park in a “visitor space”. Please use the crosswalk to enter the building.

*If you arrive after 7:40am and SES staff are not present, you are required to come in the front office to sign your child in. This ensures your child is safe and their supervision is safely transferred from you to SES staff.

Afternoon Dismissal:

*Dismissal begins at 2:30 pm on regular school days and 11:00 am on half days.

*Please make sure your child's name is visible on the Sandlapper Car Rider card and displayed on your rear-view mirror until your child is in the car.

*Follow the blue line, closest to the curb.

*Pull up as far as possible before stopping to unload/ pick up so that other parents can do the same. This helps us to load more cars, moving the car rider line more quickly.

*Children are instructed to stand in designated spaces to look for their cars.

*SES staff will direct students to the area on the sidewalk where they should go for pickup.

*If you do not have a car tag, you will park and enter the building to verify identification with the front office staff (bring your ID).

Parents or relatives may not walk up to pick up students during dismissal. Students will be released based on their designated to get home will be the way the student is sent home. This is a safety procedure in place for our students. For example, if a student is designated a car rider, the student will be dismissed to a car, not to individuals walking up to the car line. We understand that sometimes you may have appointments, please be sure to plan accordingly. Early dismissal ends at 2:00 PM. Again, this procedure is for the safety of our students and the staff on duty.

If a student is picked up late the following applies:

The safety of our students is our highest priority. Students who attend Sandlapper are to be picked up by 2:55 pm each day. When students are not picked up on time, we must provide supervision for them, which causes staff to stay and provide this supervision. Parents will be charged $5 for every increment of 1-15 minutes they are late picking up their child(ren). Adults will be charged for each child, as it applies. Fees are due when the child is picked up.

Thank you for working together as a family to ensure all students are safe.  It takes a village and we must work together to continue to have a safe environment.   Please feel free to speak with an administrator if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely, Dr. Prowell

FEDERAL IMPACT SURVEY

What is it?

Richland School District Two schools are funded primarily by local taxes. However, due to the large federal presence in our area and the tax exemptions available to federally-connected personnel, businesses, and agencies, Richland School District Two is eligible to apply for federal Impact Aid funds.

Impact Aid is a federal program designed to assist local school districts that enroll federally connected students. Federally connected students are children of active duty uniformed services personnel, children who live on federal property, and children whose parents work on federal property. The Impact Aid Program funds become a part of Richland School District Two’s general operating budget and are critical to maintaining high standards for educational excellence.

What do I have to do?

We need your assistance in identifying students with federal connections. This year families can complete this form online via Parent Portal. All you have to do is log into your parent portal account and complete the Impact Aid Survey. The survey can be completed in 5 minutes or less. The survey must be completed for each of your students.

Complete the survey TODAY!

Please click the link below to log into Parent Portal, and complete the survey today. We encourage all families to complete it as soon as possible to ensure we have accurate data before the closing date on January 20, 2023.

Where do I find the link to the survey?

One Book, One School
Our 2nd - 5th graders have started reading a fictional novel titled The Wild RobotThe Wild Robot by Peter Brown is a charming tale of a robot who is washed ashore on an island inhabited only by animals. ROZZUM unit 7134, or Roz, is not designed for the wilderness, but she is programmed with survival instincts and the ability to learn. At first, the other animals call her a monster, but after she adopts an orphaned gosling, she gradually becomes part of the animal community and makes the wilderness her home. The content is very rich and covers many topics, including positive mindsets, stereotypes, acceptance, and violence. Feel free to check this book out from your local library to read along with your child as we progress through the chapters in January.

Directory Information in Parent Portal
Some of you may have received an email from Richland Two regarding your student's directory information. If you initially chose the option to not allow Richland Two to share certain information, such as name and/or photo this means that we at Sandlapper are also not able to include your child in any publications including but not limited to our yearbook, class pictures, award/promotion programs, Family Night celebrations, honor rolls, etc. If you would like to change your student's choice so we can include your child(ren) in publications, such as the yearbook, watch the video below.
