  Sandlapper's Vision

Sandlapper will prepare every student academically, socially, and emotionally to be creative leaders in a global society.

Not all superheros wear capes; some wear uniforms. So, at Sandlapper we would like to show our sincere appreciation for the heroes who have dedicated their service to the United States Military. We hope you will consider helping our student groups at Sandlapper with their SuperHero Supply Drive by contributing an item or two. The students from these three groups are working together on this first annual Columbia VA Medical Center and Richland Two Partnership. If you have questions about the supply drive, do not hesitate to contact the sponsors of Student Council, Junior Beta Club, and/or FLIGHT via ParentSquare.

Directory Information in Parent Portal
Some of you may have received an email from Richland Two regarding your student's directory information. If you initially chose the option to not allow Richland Two to share certain information, such as name and/or photo this means that we at Sandlapper are also not able to include your child in any publications including but not limited to our yearbook, award/promotion programs, Family Night celebrations, honor rolls, etc. If you would like to change your student's choice so we can include your child(ren) in publications, such as the yearbook, watch the video below.
Middle School Magnets/Choice Opportunities

In 1991 Richland Two introduced its first magnet, The Learning Collaborative (TLC), a program for motivated and high-achieving students at Dent Middle School. Over the course of the past 20 years, the magnet offerings have grown to 39 unique and dynamic programs aimed at engaging all types of learners.

For more information including frequently asked questions and a schedule of school information nights, please visit the Choice Program page. Using the online Choice Application, parents may apply each January and May for placement that will take effect the following school year.

Ms. Allen, our school counselor, has invited our 5th Grade Families to join her in a virtual meeting to learn more about the middle school magnet school choice options and the application process.
You will find the details of that meeting and the Google Meet join info in ParentSquare.
Did you know? Sandlapper Elementary has a dental program that can improve your child’s oral health. HPS is a group of Registered Dental Hygienists throughout the state that go into schools to clean teeth, apply fluoride, and place sealants. To have your child participate in the HPS dental program, please complete the consent form that comes home. Your child will be seen by the dental hygienist without missing valuable instructional time. After your child is seen, a letter will be sent home explaining the services that were provided and any additional information about your child’s oral health needs.

Don’t Let The Winter Bugs Get You!
A child with a temperature of 100º or greater will be sent home. Please plan ahead and have someone available to pick up your child if you are unable to come.

Tips for Avoiding Colds, Flus, Respiratory Viruses, etc
  • Wash your hands frequently.
  • Keep your hands away from your face.
  • Avoid contact with sick people.
  • Wipe down shared surfaces with disinfectants.
  • Keep boxes of tissues handy. If tissues arE unavailable, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve.
  • Cover your cough and sneezes.
  • Exercise, get good rest, and eat healthy.
  • When available, obtain the flu vaccination.
Cover Your Cough
Stop the spread of germs that make you and others sick. When tissues are not available, you should cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not in your hands. This will help diminish the transfer of germs to others. Always clean your hands after you sneeze or cough.

Health Room Hints
  • Children must be fever-free for at least 24 hours before returning to school; this needs to be without the aid of medication, such as Tylenol.
  • Please take the time to notify the heath room if there are any changes in your contact phone numbers.
  • Keep your child home from school if they are sick.
  • Any questions may be addressed to Ms. Carter, School Nurse, or Ms. Minger, Health room assistant at 691-4045
Cold or Flu?
Cold symptoms are usually mild, come on gradually, and often include a stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, and mild cough. Flu symptoms often begin suddenly with the onset of high fever, followed by intense body aches, chest discomfort, headache and extreme weakness.
Medication Policy
All medication, including cough drops, must be in the original package or pharmacy container. Students may not carry any medications (including cough drops) on their person, or have them in their purses or bookbags. The health room will dispense all medication. Parents must fill out and sign a medication administration form stating the medication name, dose, time to be administered and termination date. Please contact the Health Room if you need a form:  alcarter@richland2.org or 803-691-4045 ext 29009 or 29010.
